Darnton EGS were commissioned by Sainsbury's to begin work on a light-touch refurbishment of this store on the outskirts of Bromley. We were further tasked with enlarging the sales floor to create an additional 15,000sqft of sales area.

A new mezzanine floor within the warehouse provided new staff accommodation and additional warehouse storage space. This allowed the demolition of the existing staff accommodation at ground floor level, which was then converted to sales area.

Extensions to the side and front elevations, where lobbies, walkways and alcoves were enclosed, provided the remaining sales area extensions. The resulting sales floor was larger, more rational and easier to shop whilst the existing built mass was hardly altered.
